Pioneering and award-winning technology with over 30 years of proven experience.

Glass manufacturers, processors and fabricators worldwide use the unique ClearShield Eco-System™ to produce a higher quality of glass that provides a wide range of solutions.  Alternatively, existing glass can be renovated and protected on-site with the ClearShield Eco-System™.

Ordinary glass treated with the System is upgraded to ClearShield Eco-Glass™ which is ‘super-green’, on overage halving the energy requirements and carbon emissions for routine washing of external glass such as architectural and solar panel glass.

For internal applications, not only is ClearShield Eco-Glass™ easy to clean and keep clean it is also independently proven to resist the adhesion of bacteria which means a more hygienic environment.  This makes it ideal for glass kitchen splashbacks, shower enclosures and sandblasted glass.

So for ‘non-stick’, easy-clean, ‘super-green’ glass in any environment, interior or exterior, old or new, you can rely on the ClearShield Eco-System™.

Solar panel cleaning made easier

One of the advantages of solar panels as an energy generation technology is their low maintenance requirements. Once installed, a solar panel will continue to produce power for 25+ years, with inverters requiring replacement only 2 or maybe 3 times during that period. One of the only regular maintenance activities that is recommended is cleaning, as dirt that settles on panels can block sunlight and compromise power output. ClearShield is a product that promises to make panel cleaning easier, as well as protect the glass in the panels from staining and chemical degradation over time.

The Importance of Clean Glass and Solar Panels

Glass is one of the most important components of a solar panel. Part of the ‘supporting cast’ of parts, glass serves the vital role of protecting the silicon wafers, which actually generate the electricity that comes from the panels, whilst simultaneously allowing sunlight to pass through and reach the cells in as unaltered a form as possible. But glass is not impervious to routine wear, and contaminants can embed themselves in the microscopic peaks and troughs that glass naturally has on its surface. Staining can occur due to air & water-borne pollutants, not to mention harsher substances such as bird droppings. On top of this, there is the matter of routine cleaning in order to remove dust and debris that inevitably accumulate on them.

How the ClearShield System can help

ClearShield has been used in protecting glass for over 3 decades. Different from a coating, it is a transparent, polymeric resin that bonds with the surface of glass to render it chemically inert. This yields a number of benefits, including a significantly lowered need to clean the panels (about half as frequently as without), greater ease in removing dirt, and resistance to staining and discolouration.

The ClearShield System in South Africa

The ClearShield System, can be applied during panel manufacturing, or onsite as part of the installation process or thereafter.  Interested installers and manufacturers can learn more by contacting Chris Woodcock of ClearShield S.A. New ClearShield Eco-System™ Earns Prestigious Transatlantic Honours

US Glass PotY

We have started the New Year on a high after winning the ‘Product of the Year’ Award from US Glass Magazine for its new ClearShield Eco-System™. This is the company’s 13th award for innovation and quality in its history. US Glass Magazine only honours the best of the best and has recognised products this year that are ‘so new, so revolutionary or unique that they merit honour’. This award is specifically significant to members of the industry as it is voted for by the readership of America’s leading glass publication.

Our new ‘non-stick’ ClearShield Eco-System™ has green benefits and cost savings that apply all along the supply chain as follows:

- Energy Savings on Routine Glass Maintenance – On average this product reduces by 50% the energy requirements for routine glass washing. This includes, but is not limited to: transportation to site, operation of access equipment, production of cleaning materials and consumption of water.

- Hygiene – ClearShield® anti-microbial protection can help to prevent the prevalence and spread of potentially harmful infections such as MRSA, e-coli and C-difficile, thanks to its unique ‘non-stick’ surface. This acts as a barrier that resists the adhesion and growth of bacteria, viruses and fungi.

- Enhanced ‘Day-Lighting’ – By maintaining the original light transmission of crystal clear glass for longer.

In addition, ClearShield® can be applied to both new and existing glass which can be bought back to a ‘like-new appearance and functionality’ by using the ‘Renovation’ step of the system.
This latest award comes hot on the heels of the company being named as Finalist for the G13 Environmental Initiative of the Year Award, thus achieving success simultaneously on both sides of the Atlantic!

Last year, Ritec was awarded the ISO 14001 standard. This International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard is designed to address the delicate balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impact and is achieved with the commitment of the company as a whole. This is accepted internationally as a great achievement and accredits Ritec International as having an effective environmental management system in place within its business.

HouseKeeping: Glass Self Management (GSM)

Glass management in hotels has been an erratic affair historically, mostly under the ‘Reactive Management’ banner. Costs of regular cleaning sub-contractors have escalated, and as is so often the case, so has the inconvenience factor.  Add to this the question: Is that glass really clean?
Clearshield SA (Pty) Ltd have established a bespoke system which will enable the Hotel Industry to manage its own glass, entirely. Under the banner of ‘Glass Self Management’, the system empowers the hotel staff to apply the Clearshield glass surface protection products as well. From shower screens to roof lights, balustrade glass to high elevated windows, Clearshields GSM has the glass answer for hotel management.

Hotel staff will be trained:

To correctly and economically apply the Clearshield glass surface protection range.

To renovate contaminated glass, such as shower glass.

To correctly use the aftercare range of chemicals.

To  utilise the water-fed pole system on the exterior glass, which will also incorporate the Clearshield aftercare applications.

In overall glass management techniques.

Clearshield SA designs and installs the water-fed pole systems. When incorporated with the Clearshield surface protection systems, the GSM product gives the hotel management total control over one of the biggest problems in a hotel today: Clean glass, hygienic showers, hygienic cooking  area and restaurant glass.
And all in a cost-managed and controlled process. Call us Today!

Glass Roof - Wrapped in Glass Project

The client wanted an absolutely natural living experience, with the roof carrying enough soil to plant a variety of plants.
The roots would eventually make an interesting pattern as they wormed along the glass surface!
The glass has all been treated with Clearshield Protect which provides a protection against the harmful effects of any alkalines in the damp soils.
Clearshield is 100% non-toxic when properly applied and cured onto glass.
Due to this unique feature, the architect had peace of mind in specifying Clearshield for this “Glass House” situated in one of the most scenic areas of South Africa.
